Teen Mentoring

The Teen Mentoring program matches middle and high school volunteers with a child at a nearby elementary school. Matches meet for one hour each week, on school grounds, during school for the duration of the school year in Squamish and after school in Whistler (October to May). Big and Little Buddies do fun activities together including, playing sports and games, arts and crafts, playing on the playground or just hanging out together.

It's a great way to learn new skills, gain volunteer hours and an awesome way to have fun!

The teen program is open to male and female students in grades 7-12. Please note that the Teen Mentoring program is not offered at all schools and serves children in grades 1-6.

*Howe Sound Secondary students volunteer at Squamish Elementary Thursday's 2-3pm.

*Don Ross Middle School students volunteer at Brackendale Elementary Friday's 2-3pm.

*Whistler Waldorf School Tuesday's 3-4:15pm.

  1. Apply online through our website.
  2. Make sure your parent/guardian knows you are applying. You will be asked to insert their email address in the online application and they will receive our Volunteer Permission and Release Agreement that they will need to read with you, sign, and email back to us within 24 hours of receiving it. You will be signing the same form in person at your interview. If your parent is unable to email the form back to us they will be able to print it, sign it, and have you hand it into the Mentoring Coordinator at your school. We must have this form to complete your application.
  3. Make sure your references know that you are applying. You will be asked to provide three references (family, school and personal) in the online application. They must all be over 19 years old and know you well. Your personal reference (someone who is not related to you) must have known you for a minimum of 2 years.
  4. Once your application is complete you will be contacted by the Mentoring Coordinator at your school for an interview.
  5. After a successful interview, you will need to complete a group volunteer training before being accepted into the Teen Mentoring program.
